Customer-focused companies that go above and beyond to provide a stellar experience are <strong>60% more profitable (2)<\/strong> than those with lackluster experiential offerings. That little extra attention goes a long way toward the bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this same vein, <strong>80% of customers (3)<\/strong> are willing to pay for a better experience. It\u2019s a sign that customers recognize the extra effort, and that they\u2019re willing to reward businesses that take initiative. If you want to offer products or services at a premium price, make sure the customer experience reflects that price tag.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how do you deliver an experience that\u2019s worthy of higher customer spend? All signs point to personalization. As many as <strong>73% of customers (4)<\/strong> say they\u2019re willing to pay more for a personalized experience. Take an individualized interest in your customers and you\u2019ll be rewarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CAnd_theyll_tell_two_friends%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D\"><\/span><strong>\u201cAnd they\u2019ll tell two friends\u2026\u201d<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Word of mouth is one of the most powerful forces of advertising. As the saying goes, someone will share their experience with two friends, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oCjmDI4AJlk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">they\u2019ll tell two friends<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JA7CKvoKEmE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">they\u2019ll tell two friends<\/a>, and so on. Small businesses need to make sure that the information traveling through the grapevine is positive, not negative.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, in the digital age, word of mouth spreads like wildfire. As many as <strong>72% of customers (5)<\/strong> will share their retail experience with at least six friends if it\u2019s positive. However, <strong>17% of customers (5)<\/strong> will take to social media to vent a negative experience\u2014which means hundreds (if not thousands) of people could see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One bad impression can do serious damage to your reputation. <strong>57% of customers (6)<\/strong> say that they\u2019ll stop doing business with a company if they feel neglected or if the experience doesn\u2019t live up to promised expectations. And, as any small business owner knows, it\u2019s a lot more affordable to retain customers than it is to acquire new ones. Bad customer experience could set you up for high churn rates. But, positive interactions could save you big-time marketing dollars.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mode_of_customer_interaction_matters\"><\/span><strong>Mode of customer interaction matters<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Customer experience trends don\u2019t happen in a vacuum. It\u2019s important to look at the medium of interaction. Does the customer experience happen face-to-face? Over chat? Through a website? Then, consider what customers want in terms of experience across these mediums.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>67% of customers (7)<\/strong> prefer self-service, as opposed to interacting with reps.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>55% of customers (8)<\/strong> want to chat with a live person over the phone.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>47% of customers (9)<\/strong> would rather email with business over anything else.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>41% of customers (10)<\/strong> want the option to chat on-site, via person or chatbot.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your small business isn\u2019t connecting with customers in the way they prefer to interact, you could be handicapping customer experience from the get-go. The results could be dire. Forced to engage in a way that\u2019s unfamiliar or uncomfortable to them, <strong>57% of customers (11)<\/strong> will decide to switch brands\u2014particularly if it impedes the purchasing process in any way.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also important to make interactions and transactions as simple and seamless as possible. To do this, more and more businesses are relying on AI and machine learning. By 2025, <strong>85% of customer interactions (12)<\/strong> were facilitated by simple automation, including smart <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northone.com\/blog\/small-business\/chatbot-statistics?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=chatbot-statistics\">chatbots<\/a>, intelligent autoresponders and AI-assisted customer service portals. Focusing on delivering an exceptional experience and top-notch service is a smart way to curry favor with the majority of your patrons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happens if you fall short of delivering a superb experience? As many as <strong>57% of customers (14)<\/strong> say that all it takes is one major disappointment to send them looking for products or services elsewhere. It\u2019s a daunting prospect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there\u2019s good news.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All customers really want is for small businesses to make the effort. So long as you try to deliver a great experience, you\u2019re likely to have the support of most customers. As many as <strong>77% of customers (15)<\/strong> said they see brands in a more favorable light if they reach out to ask for feedback. Even more reward brands for actively taking steps to learn from and improve the customer experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key takeaway from these customer experience statistics? Small businesses need to focus their effort and energy on making customers feel valued, welcome and appreciated. Remove barriers that make it difficult to interact or buy, and take steps to incorporate positives throughout the customer journey: before, during and after the sale.
